Biography

Michelle S. Lam is an Associate Carillonneur at the Netherlands Carillon in Arlington, VA and at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. Dr. Lam’s recitals and work in the carillon community focus on highlighting people of color, women, and lesser played works. Dr. Lam is a seasoned performer in both secular and sacred settings. She was the resident carillonist at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI from 2019-2023, played weekly recitals at the University of Michigan Baird and Lurie carillons, and continues to perform regularly in the greater Washington, DC area. Dr. Lam is also an alumna of the Wellesley College Guild of Carillonneurs. She passed the GCNA Carillonneur Exam in 2022. Dr. Lam has served as the co-chair of the Guild of Carillonneurs of North America’s Finance Committee since 2023, and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2024.

North American Carillon Community Survey (2020-2025)

The survey was developed in conjunction with Dr. Elisa Tersigni and was the recipient of a 2020 GCNA Barnes Grant.

A Century of Women and the Carillon: Firsts

Dr. Lam refined and edited the timeline, “Firsts”, for the project “A Century of Women and the Carillon” (developed and led by Tiffany Ng, Audrey Dye, and Scott Orr). The timeline features 50 women and celebrates their milestones with multimedia content.
